COARU ABAHEKA Cooperative is an active farmers’ organization in Karongi District specializing in the production and marketing of high-quality passion fruits. The cooperative brings together committed smallholder growers who cultivate passion fruit on well-managed hillside and valley plots, using improved seedlings, proper trellising systems, and good agricultural practices to ensure healthy vines and consistent yields. Members receive training in pruning, pest and disease control, soil fertility management, and harvesting techniques, which helps maintain fruit quality.
The cooperative aggregates produce from its members and supplies reliable volumes to local traders, collection centers, and regional markets. By selling collectively, COARU ABAHEKA secures better prices, reduces post-harvest losses, and strengthens its bargaining power.
